Blurb:

There are wounds that never show on the body.

For twenty-nine years, Colbie Bennington does as expected with an eternal smile stained on her lips. The biggest chances she's ever taken can be counted on one hand, three fingers to be exact—her battered red chucks, painting her toenails a vibrant blue, and her wedding dress. Always the dutiful daughter and a Stepford fiancée, she has never acted on impulse, never been in love.

She's never lived.

On her wedding day, Colbie ends a toxic relationship, drops the fake smile, and says, "I can't do this anymore."

Navy SEAL Zander Serrano returns home broken and burdened with a volcano of remorse. Too trapped in a mental war to be at peace and too damaged to be at war, he shuts the world out. The last thing he expects is to feel, especially for a runaway bride with her own baggage.

Two empty hearts marred in different spots find themselves drawn to one another. Each with their own scars. Some, the world can see. Others, unseen to the naked eye.

They say two broken people should not be together. But for Colbie and Zander, their attraction is undeniable, unexpected.

Can two souls with fractured parts be the best cure for each other's wounds?

Starting over is never easy, but sometimes in life, everyone needs somewhere to begin.

EskieMama & Dragon Lady Reads Sunday Spotlight: Angel M.B. Chadwick

Welcome to EskieMama & Dragon Lady Reads
Sunday Spotlight!

Today we are spotlighting
Author Angel M. B. Chadwick!

Angel M.B. Chadwick is currently writing the sequel to the “Weeping Well” series. She’s also writing a twelve book cozy mysteries series, numerous plays, novels, short stories, among her other literary works, business ideas and inventions all while raising her nine year old son.

Q & A with Angel M. B. Chadwick!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hi, my name’s Angel Chadwick. I’m a mom to a nine year old son who is autistic/nonverbal and making steady progress daily, a bit of a blogger, reader, reviewer, inventor, playwright, indie author of all genres mainly mixed genres. I went to three colleges majored in Journalism, English, Psychology, Literature, and Liberal arts, Philosophy. I wrote my first play when I was in the eleventh grade. I have a newly released novel titled “Weeping Well” which is the first book in the series.

What do you do when you are not writing?

I spend time with my nine year old son.

Do you write full-time or part-time?

I write full time.

When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?

I started writing when I was 13, which was a short story I wrote for a English assignment. I wrote the first book, a poetry book, over a course of twenty years, I had it published in September  2014

What got you interested in writing?

When I wrote my first short story at 13 years old and my English teacher gave me an A+ and rave reviews and encouraged me to continue writing because she saw my writing potential

How would you describe your style of writing to someone that has never read your work?

It would be hard to put into words here because my writing style isn’t always the same and is very intricately layered and multifaceted, very unique. I guess the best way I can describe is it is like a quagmire that is full of variety and very well organized and it’s very skilled. So I guess I could say it’s a sophisticated skill rather than a style that’s like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Which usually comes first for you, the character(s) story or the idea for the novel?

Both at the same time, including the title.

What books/authors have influenced your writing?

Edgar Allan Poe, Bret Harte, Tennessee Williams, Lucy Maud Montgomery, William Shakespeare, Sylvia Plath, William Faulkner, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, to name a few, pretty much a lot of the authors of literature.

Do you have any projects in the works? If so, can you share a little of your current work with us?

Yes, I always have something in the works. I have a three more books to write for my “Weeping Well” series, a twelve book cozy mysteries series for teen to young adult, seven plays, a several other literary works.

Is there some place special you like to be when you write?

No, I don’t have a particular place that I like to write, but usually it’s the living room.

Other than writing, what do you have a passion for?

I have a passion for raising my son and making his life the happiest and most secure I can. Also I mentor other aspiring indie authors giving them as much advice I can since I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum of trad and indie publishing starting when I was 15 years old.

SYNOPSIS

HANNAH COCKER
We descendants of six notorious brothers are a close knit group, because we have to protect each other. People want to be our friends, our lovers, for the wrong reasons... for what we can do for them. What they can take from us. And sometimes snakes wear masks.

Every man I've dated in this city has either bored me or hurt me.

So when my cousin, Sofia Sol, offers me a ride on the back of her Harley with no destination in mind besides out-of-Atlanta, can you blame me for saying yes?

TOBIAS KYRKOS
Life doesn't always give you what you want. You have to take it. Two years ago I lost a fight that cost me my Champion title. Now's my chance to turn the tide.
I don't know who the Cocker family is. Florida doesn't give a damn what happens in any other state. So when I spot Hannah Cocker for the first time, I don't know she's semi-famous, and I don't care. All I'm thinking is, how can I make that beautiful woman's sadness disappear? I'm not good enough to be her forever, but I sure can give her one hell of a ride tonight.

EXCERPT

Hannah presses closer into me, her fingertips tracing my skin. “My mom read to me every night, and taught me how before Kindergarten. She was really patient, you know? I don’t remember her ever losing her temper, at least not with me.”
“You see her lose it with someone else?”
“She got mad at a plumber once, called him a robber. And when he left she kneeled in front of me and said, ‘Don’t ever let them take advantage of you because you’re a girl, Hannah.’ I think it’s my strongest memory of her. But I have photos, and my grandma recorded stories with my dad before she died.”
I whisper, “How many?”
“Tons.” Hannah’s chest caves in as she rubs her nose then wraps her arms around me again. She feels so good. “I haven’t listened to them in years. They’d make me miss her too much, and I miss her so badly already. I want my mom. I need her! Why’d that have to happen to her?” Her shoulders start shaking while I rock her.
“I know, gorgeous, it sucks.”
“So bad! It sucks so bad,” she whispers. “I hate it. I have a stepmother, and I love her. She’s great, and I know I’m lucky. I shouldn’t feel this badly, but Tobias, I want my real mom to meet my children. I want her to see who I marry. I want her to be able to slap my dad, like really hard! Maybe two times.”
Quietly laughing at that last one, I ask, “You can’t do it?”
“No,” she sighs, chuckling through the tears. “He’s too good a guy. But I kind of want to.” My chest rumbles with hers and then we go quiet together. “Thank you, Tobias.”
“For?”
“I think I needed to talk about her. I never do. All my cousins have both their parents. It’s only me who doesn’t, so they can’t ever understand. But then it’s like she was never here, and that’s not good.” Hannah meets my eyes. “And I’m sorry about what happened to you. I know they’re not the same stories…”
“…but they’re the same feelings.”
“Same loss.” Her stomach growls and she glances to it, making a face at the timing.
I laugh and trace her cheek. “You hungry, babe?”
“Yeah, a little.”
“Let’s get room service.”
Her hand slides down my stomach and under my towel, which unlatches the haphazard knot. The damp cotton drifts to the ground. She takes hold of my sleeping length and smiles up at me, looking so beautiful my heart shudders. “I know what we can do while we wait for food to get here.”
One of my eyebrows cocks up and I murmur against her waiting lips, “Let’s make the pain go away.”

EskieMama & Dragon Lady Reads Review: Hometown Cowboy by Sara Richardson

Hometown Cowboy
Rocky Mountain Riders #1
by
Sara Richardson

Blurb:

NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH A COWBOY
Jessa Mae Love is done with relationships. No matter how tempting he might be, she cannot--will not--fall for a man like Lance Cortez. The outrageously handsome cowboy is practically a living legend in Colorado, as famous for riding bulls as he is for breaking hearts. What would a big-time rodeo star like him see in a small-town veterinarian who wears glasses, rescues animals, and cries when watching rom-coms? Turns out, plenty.

Raising bulls, riding the circuit, and looking after his ailing father--Lance never stands still for long. Yet Jessa catches his attention, and the more she tries to resist him, the more he wants her. When she agrees to move to the ranch to keep an eye on Lance's dad, Jessa tells him they have to keep it professional: no flirting, no sweet talk, and definitely no kissing. But with Jessa now living under his roof, that's easier said than done . . .

Review:                                 5 stars

Sara Richardson knows how to write small town romances, I have found she is one of my go to authors if I want a small town romance read. I really enjoyed Hometown Cowboy it had everything this gal enjoys in a good read, a sexy cowboy, a sassy heroine, a family secret, friends and family who knows what’s going on before the hero does, & lots of laughs.

Lance Cortez, a professional bull rider, needs help to keep an eye on his father Luis Cortez, after he wanders off and is acting strangely to Lance. Who better than his father’s best friend’s daughter Jessa Love who Luis Cortez considers a daughter while he trains for his last chance to take the World that he only took years ago. Jessa Love is the town veterinarian and owner of the Animal Rescue and Shelter that she inherited from her dad whom died a year ago. Lance offers her a deal to donate half of his winnings when he wins the Worlds to the rescue and shelter if she moves in with his father and keeps an eye on him while he trains. She accepts the offer but will she be more of a distraction than help.

Hometown Cowboy was a great beginning to a Sara Richardson’s new series Rocky Mountain Riders. I can not wait to return to Topaz Falls and she which brother gets roped by cupid next and join the girls once again at The Chocolate Therapist for their “book club”

If you are looking for a small town weekend read I recommend you pick up a copy of Hometown Cowboy.

Blurb:

Rebecca Montgomery never expected to leave London and go to the American West, but this was how her brother saves her an impending marriage of convenience. She also never expected her brother to marry her by proxy to a trusted friend before dying on the journey. She quickly discovers that the Montana territory is a far cry from England, and so are the expectations of a wife at Bridgewater Ranch, for she's married not just to Dashiell, but also to his friend and fellow Scot, Connor MacDonald.

Dashiell McPherson never expected to find himself wed to a woman he's never met, especially not a prim lady raised to believe her sexuality is something to be repressed rather than enjoyed. Can an inhibited woman accept not just one but two husbands? It will take ample Scottish brash, a fair amount of brawn and plenty of carnal persuasion to free Rebecca of her inhibitions and show her how treasured she is.

This fourth book in the bestselling Bridgewater series continues the saga of this polyandrous Western community where men are men, and their women are pleasured in ways that will have them - and readers - begging for more.
