BLURB:

On the eve of her thirty-ninth birthday, Maggie Piper doesn’t look, act, or feel much different than she did at twenty-nine, but with her fortieth birthday speeding toward her like a freight train, she wonders if she should. The fear of a slowing metabolism, wrinkling of her skin, and the ticking of her biological clock leaves Maggie torn between a desire to settle down like most of her similarly-aged peers and concern that all is not perfect in her existing relationship. When a spontaneous request for a temporary break from her live-in boyfriend results in a breakup, Maggie finds herself single once again and only twelve months from the big 4.0.

As Maggie reenters the New York City dating jungle, suitors present themselves quickly, but who is “The One?” Is he a sexy coworker, one of many bachelors at a speed-dating event, or is he the man she already set free? How do you know? Her fun-loving friends and supportive family, including meddlesome “no-filter” Aunt Helen, eagerly share their (often unsolicited) opinions, but Maggie is determined to find her own way, even if she falls on her face—repeatedly.

Excerpt:

“What kind of accolades do you think I receive from my esteemed colleagues?”

I scratch my chin, pretending to ponder the question. “I would imagine people have commented positively on your skills as an attorney.”

Dismissing me with a wave of his hand, Philip says, “Good attorneys are a dime a dozen in this place. Or at least I hope so.”

“Okay. What about that you’re approachable and friendly?”

Philip gives me a closed-mouth smile and nods. “I suppose I’ve heard that before, but it’s not exactly a blush-worthy compliment now, is it?”

I cock my head to the side. “I wasn’t aware you were hoping for a compliment which would make you blush.” As Philip remains riveted in place, seemingly eager for my next words, it dawns on me this is my chance to “work it.”

Philip rubs the back of his neck. “Oh, now I’m fishing. I’m being silly. Let’s forget I brought it—”

Interrupting him, I say, “How about you have the most beautiful brown eyes I’ve ever seen on a man?”

In the mere seconds it takes him to respond, I feel like I’ve aged several years, and as I wonder whether what I’d said could be construed as sexual harassment in the work place, I think I might throw up.

His hand still stroking his neck, he mumbles, “Well, Maggie Piper, I’ll be damned. You did it.”

“Did what?” I ask in a low voice. Got myself fired?

The power of preconceived notions nearly tears them apart—until they meet up with brew master Ross, who opens their eyes to a deeper, even more erotic connection. Excerpt:

“Austin?” Her voice behind him made him stand and stretch, his cock already tingling in anticipation. “Where did you go? Jesus, what time is it? Get your ass back here.”

He grinned. “Think you can just boss me like that, woman?” He leaned on the door frame, drinking her in with his eyes. “Because you can’t.”

“I’m not bossing, dear. Just suggesting.” She let the sheet fall aside, revealing her completely naked body. His smile widened when she bent one knee and reached down to touch herself. “You know, only suggesting that you get your sweet self over here and help a girl out.”

He grinned, yanked off his shirt and shorts, and dove into the warm nest of sheets and Evelyn. The frustration at her most recent rejection was already forgotten in the amazing smell of her skin and the lovely sound of her moans as he did what she suggested, for an hour or two.

Later, when they lay tangled in damp sheets, catching their breath, their fingers clasped together between them, Evelyn sighed. “So, tell me something,” she said. Austin forced himself up to full consciousness as best he could.

“Hmm,” he said, turning to face her, taking in the flushed, well-fucked look on her face with more than a little self-satisfaction.

“How is it…I mean, with two, um, guys and a girl?”

Austin hesitated, then put her knuckles to his lips, buying himself some time.

She pulled her fingers free of his, sat up and wrapped the sheet around herself. One thing about his Evelyn, he mused, watching her. He would never accuse her of being indirect. About anything.

“Don’t baby me, Austin. I mean it. I want to know.”

“I have no doubt that you want to know, my love.” He propped himself on one elbow and ordered his thoughts.

“Don’t think about it, damn you. Just…tell me.” She swept her hair up off her neck, making his mouth water at the sight of her flushed skin. Making him want to grab her, hold her down, lick the sweat droplets and lose himself in her all over again. “Yo, earth to lover boy,” she demanded, snapping her fingers in front of his face. “Spill it. What’s it like? I mean do you… Would you… Oh hell, never mind.” She turned and started to climb out of bed before he reached out and grabbed her arm.

“Hang on a second. I don’t mind telling you. I guess I didn’t expect you to want to know. Most…women…aren’t that into it.”

She let him pull her back into the warm bed and curled into him so he was pressed up against her back, his lips on her bare, delicious shoulder. “Stop it,” she whispered. “Tell me what it’s like to have sex with a woman with another guy in on the act.”

He sighed and held onto her. “It’s…pretty amazing,” he admitted. “I mean, I can’t speak for the women I’ve… We’ve…well, you know what I mean.”

Q & A with Liz Crowe

What was the hardest part of writing this book?
Keeping the inherent “fantasy” of a menage romance (2 straight men and one woman) grounded in some semblance of reality. I say that because I write books that I would want to read and, while I have read some sexy menages that do this, many of them don’t. But I think that I succeeded with the help of an excellent editor!

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I really loved bringing a new world to life—the craft beer industry is a super-hot, trending thing right now and I have direct, insider experience with it, having founded and marketed a brewery in Ann Arbor. I worked hard to ensure that the world remains just that—firmly in the background but with the sights, sounds, and (most importantly) smells and tastes vibrant and alive as part of the story.

Who are some of your favorite authors that you feel were influential in your work?
I always credit my early readings of Stephen King novels with my love of the “deep 3rd person” POV. He is a master of delving deep into his characters’ psyches, even from the distance of 3rd person and I try to accomplish the same thing.

What do your plans for future projects include?
TAPPED is book 1 of a series and I just turned in book 2 (LightStruck) to my editor. I need to get busy on book 3 (Conditioned)! I also have a trilogy of novellas coming this year for my critically acclaimed, self-published series: The Love Brothers. PLUS I will be co-writing something awesome with one of my personal writing heroes in October—more on this later!

Do you ever get writer’s Block? Any tips on how to get through the dreaded writer’s block?
I can’t say that I do. I have the opposite problem, Writer’s Overabundance of Ideas But No Time To Finish Everything!
I do sometimes hit a snag, or write myself into a corner, but I step away from the computer, go on a walk with my dogs or go to hot yoga and can almost always untangle things in my head.
I do avoid social media when I’m actualy in writing mode. Nothing stymies you more than observing how everyone else around SEEMS to be more successful than you are.

Have you ever had one character you wanted to go one way with but after the book was done the character was totally different?
I don’t think I’ve ever thought about that before, but, even after 30+ books, I can say “no.” My books are character-driven so I typically know from the get-go how they will evolve. Which means, yes, my characters to evolve, sometimes over many years, but they all typically “end up” where I figured they would.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Amazon best-selling author, mom of three, Realtor, beer blogger, brewery marketing expert, and soccer fan, Liz Crowe is a Kentucky native and graduate of the University of Louisville currently living in Ann Arbor. She has decades of experience in sales and fund raising, plus an eight-year stint as a three-continent, ex-pat trailing spouse.
Her early forays into the publishing world led to a groundbreaking fiction subgenre, “Romance for Real Life,” which has gained thousands of fans and followers interested less in the “HEA” and more in the “WHA” (“What Happens After?”). More recently she is garnering even more fans across genres with her latest novels, which are more character-driven fiction, while remaining very much “real life.”

With stories set in the not-so-common worlds of breweries, on the soccer pitch, in successful real estate offices and at times in exotic locales like Istanbul, Turkey, her books are unique and told with a fresh voice. The Liz Crowe backlist has something for any reader seeking complex storylines with humor and complete casts of characters that will delight, frustrate and linger in the imagination long after the book is finished.

Don’t ever ask her for anything “like a Budweiser” or risk bodily injury.
