Mystic Cowboy
Men of White Sandy series #1

Blurb:

One good man could drive her all kinds of crazy.

Men of the White Sandy, Book 1

Just who does Rebel Runs Fast think he is? Dr. Madeline Mitchell, the new doctor on the White Sandy Lakota Indian Reservation, knows there’s a good answer to that question. Somewhere.

Sure, the Lakota medicine man is every cowboy-and-Indian fantasy she ever had, but he sends patients to sweat lodges instead of clinical trials, talks them out of flu vaccines. Even more irritating, he makes her heart race.

Rebel swore off the white man's world—and its women—years ago. Madeline doesn't speak the language, understand the customs, or believe he's anything more than a charlatan. Yet she stays, determined to help his people. And he keeps finding excuses to spend more time at the clinic.

When he discovers her in the throes of dangerous heat stroke, Rebel’s efforts to cool her down sets fire to a passion neither thought they wanted. But when the people start falling violently ill, the cultural gap stretches the connection between their hearts to the breaking point…

Warning: This book contains smoking-hot skinny dipping, emotional and emotionally satisfying sex, and a shirtless cowboy who is also an Indian.

Q & A with Tammy L. Bailey about
In Mistletoe!

Tell us about In Mistletoe.
I think the best way to tell you about IN MISTLETOE is to share the blurb.

At twenty-five, Grace Evans is steadily picking up the pieces of everyone else’s life. So, when her younger sister decides to turn into a runaway bride just four weeks before the wedding, Grace, drops everything to chase after her and bring her back home. Only, when the trail leads to Mistletoe, Washington, she finds herself at the mercy of the town’s most handsome and emotionally unavailable bachelor.

Ex-Army officer, Ayden McCabe, has three creeds in life: never make the first move, never fall in love, and never take anyone to Mistletoe’s Christmas Dance. Wanting nothing more than to keep his matchmaking sister from meddling in his personal life, he agrees to help Grace if she agrees to play his girlfriend. Too brunette and meek for his taste, Ayden believes Grace can’t tempt him enough to break any of his creeds. He could not be more wrong.

What initially inspired you to write In Mistletoe?

I absolutely LOVE Holiday romances. After binge watching a few movies during Christmas break a few years ago, I thought about writing my own holiday romance. The story of Ayden and Grace evolved over several years.

Tell us little about the characters in In Mistletoe.

Grace Evans is a young woman who sacrifices her own happiness to make sure everyone else’s life runs flawlessly. So, when her little sister decides to “runaway” a few weeks before her own wedding, Grace drops her life, once again, to go find her and bring her back home. Grace soon discovers there’s life outside taking care of everyone else.

Ayden McCabe does not want to take responsibility for anyone else but himself. Regarding love, he has three creeds: never make the first move, never fall in love, and never take anyone to Mistletoe’s Christmas dance. (You’ll have to read why he’s adamant about not giving in to the last creed). He also believes a good relationship excludes one’s emotions. However, when Grace comes to Mistletoe seeking his help to find her sister, he discovers his creeds are very much in danger or being shattered.

What was the hardest part of writing this book?
In one word, TIME. I work full-time as a Senior Secretary for a Nursing Department, so writing a full-length novel does not happen in a few months for me. I wrote, IN MISTLETOE, over several Christmas Breaks from my job, and at 2 a.m. in the morning.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
My favorite chapter includes the scene where Grace and Ayden go out to look for a Christmas tree together. I love their chemistry in this scene and how they’re beginning to break down each other’s emotional barriers. With this scene, as well, I called in a little help from a wonderful nursing instructor. Thanks, Sue!! I wanted to make sure the scene was as realistic as possible.

What are your future project(s)?
My first love is historical romance, so I’m finishing up a historical romance called (tentatively) MISTRESS OF PENNDRAKE. It’s where the hero is being blackmailed into marrying a woman in order to retain his property. When he decides to ruin her instead, their life takes an interesting turn down the road to matrimony.

Now an exciting excerpt from In Mistletoe!

Yanked out of her reflection, Grace glanced up at Neil and followed his gaze to a man who stood about six-feet tall with wavy brown hair. She blinked, realizing the flyer did not do him justice. In person, he was dressed in a pair of Timberland boots, Levi jeans, and a blue and white flannel shirt under a rugged Sandstone jacket.
His shoulders were broad and masculine, as if they could withstand a hefty stack of 2x4s with little effort. He stepped forward, pausing only to rip the flyer off the post on his way by. She pressed her back against the leather cushion, finding his expression unreadable, his gait purposeful. He stopped a few inches from where she sat.
“I’m afraid you’re wasting your time, Miss…,”
“Evans. Grace,” she said, surprised by his slight Irish accent and unfriendly tone.
She wondered what Neil had said to him to cause such a reaction. Then again, maybe the flyer had something to do with his curt introduction. Well, she didn’t care. Too much depended on her staying in Mistletoe, with or without Mr. Ayden McCabe rendering a smile or a pleasant hello. Too late for polite conversation, she stood.
“You could at least hear me out,” she said, straightening to appear taller, although she barely cleared the bottom of his chin. His face softened, but not enough for her to relax. Then the corners of his mouth lifted, and her pulse sputtered.
“Look, I’m flattered, but I’m not interested.”

Tammy L. Bailey grew up in historical Appomattox, Virginia and moved to Ohio the day after she graduated high school. A third-generation veteran, she joined the Army National Guard in 1988, served five years in the active duty Army, and retired as a Master Sergeant from the Ohio Air National Guard in 2011. She is a wife and a mother of two boys. She is a huge Jane Austen fan and loves watching Jane Austen movie adaptations. Her favorite romance genre is historical romance.

Her debut novel, Lord Bachelor, became a finalist in the Heart of Excellence, Reader's Choice Awards.

When she's not writing contemporary or historical romance, she enjoys Star Wars movie night with her 10-year-old son and going to drumming practice with her 13-year-old son. Fall is her favorite season, the B-17 is her favorite plane, and Hawkeye is her favorite Avenger.

Oliver Lennox didn’t travel back in time to have a quickie in the blast chamber—but it certainly is fun. This younger Forbes is a sweeter, more innocent version of his lover. And it will be hard to leave him behind in the past.

If you like sexy nerds, humor, plenty of action, and a love story not even time can disrupt, this romantic adventure has the perfect credentials for the job.

Excerpt:

When they came up for air, Forbes claimed his hand and squeezed his fingers, his forehead resting against Oliver’s. “So, if you want the job, the research assistant job—” Forbes took a deep breath. “—it’s yours.”

Oliver stilled, pinned by that earnest gaze. He reached up to cup Forbes’s cheek in his hand. Forbes turned to plant the kiss in his palm as Oliver knew he would.

“Doc, I didn’t come here to interview for a job.” Oliver laid a finger on Forbes’s lips as he began to speak, “At least, not yet.”

“What do you mean?” Forbes let his hand slide out of Oliver’s grasp.

“I know this sounds crazy… but I’m from the future, and in my time, I already work for you.” Oliver grinned, but it didn’t last. Forbes had begun backing away from him. Crap, the Doc probably thought he was a madman. He could practically see the gears whirling behind Forbes’s eyes. Oliver had to trust that his curiosity would come overcome his fear.

“Time travel’s been proven impossible.”

Bingo. Oliver recognized that stubborn look. He’d seen it each and every time he made sandwiches with bean sprouts and spinach. Forbes ate those sandwiches too.

“Ground rules. You feel up to making them now?” She nodded. I rubbed my palms on my sweats. “You start.”
“One: Whatever we talk about, whatever I tell you, whatever you tell me, stays between us. I don’t share with my friends. You don’t share with yours.”
The smirk I loved made an appearance. “That’s your ground rule?” The admonishment in her voice was almost laughable. “Whatever.” She rolled her eyes. “Fine. I think you’re hot. Until you talk. Then you just bug me.” I laughed, but she continued, “Three: Our significant others come first. We don’t blow them off to spend time with each other.”
“You have a boyfriend I don’t know about?” The words came out before I could stop them, and I could tell by the irritated look on her face that I hadn’t hidden the jealous tone. “Have someone in mind?” I asked, my voice a little more even.
“Not yet,” she snapped. “But, when I do, I won’t be blowing off weekend plans with him to stay home and take care of you. You need to put Whitney first. I’ll understand. When it’s my turn, you’ll understand.”
“Speaking of, we don’t talk about them. Whitney and your mystery guy.”
“Ever? How is that a good rule?” she demanded, scowling. “No. Four: We can talk about whoever we’re dating, but we can’t complain.”
“You can’t change my rule.”
“I didn’t change it. I simply used my turn to overrule yours.”
“You made two rules. If you make two, I get two.”
“You are such a pain.” She sighed dramatically. “Go ahead, make two.”
“Sex,” she interrupted. “We never talk about sex. I can’t think of anything else.”
“Sex,” I agreed. “Five: We never talk about sex. I mean it.”
She lifted a shoulder in a half-shrug. “That’s all you, buddy. I’m not the one who has a girlfriend.”
“When you do, we don’t talk about it.”
“Not a problem. Girls are pretty and all, but they’re not my thing,” Lia sassed, completely undaunted as if this was the rule she wasn’t taking seriously. “That’s one. What’s your next rule?”
Needing to make sure she understood this, above all else, was the one we needed to follow, I clasped my hands and leaned forward. I didn’t need to say anything, just gave her a pointed look. She knew me well enough to understand I was getting agitated.
“Isn’t this against your rules? We’re talking about it right now.”
“Lia,” I growled in warning. I knew her just as well as she knew me. “Not talking about it means you don’t ask questions. You don’t ask my opinion. You don’t tell me one tiny detail simply because you insist it’s something I have to know.”
“Good God! This entire conversation is embarrassing. I’m not going to have sex, but if I do, I swear to all that is holy that I will not mention it to you!” The blush crept up her cheeks as she threw her hands in the air annoyed. She was too fucking cute.
