Debra Doxer!

Author of Breaking SkinPlay of LightCandy Series,
and Remedy Series

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m first and foremost the mom of a precocious, energetic six year old. I’m very close with my extended family who all live nearby, just outside of Boston. I love the Red Sox and the Patriots. Once upon a time, in another life, I worked in the film industry in Los Angeles as a PA for an Academy award winning producer, which means I answered lots of phone calls, but sometimes the people on the other end of the phone were celebrities, like Charlie Sheen. Fun fact, Charlie Sheen likes to throw big words into conversations that he doesn’t think you’ll know. But he could never stump me. Words are my thing.

What do you do when you are not writing?
Nothing too exciting. Mostly house chores and stuff for my daughter. Of course, there’s my other career. I have a full-time job in the high tech world.

Do you write full-time or part-time?Part-time - see previous answer.

When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
I started writing in college and finished my first book when I was twenty-four, which let’s just say was a while ago.

How would you describe your style of writing to someone that has never read your work?
Different. The one thing everyone says about my books is that they’re different. Although I don’t see how. The words come out the way they come out. I’m not sure why they’re so different.

What books/authors have influenced your writing?
Stephen King is one of my favorite authors, but my all-time favorite book is The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I’ve probably read it twenty times. I also love Laura Howard and Judith McNaught. I think whoever I’m reading at the time is influencing me. Every book I’ve read has influenced me in some way.

What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?
What bad reviews?? Kidding. I don’t take either to heart. I just do my thing and try not to get too high off the good ones or too low off the bad ones.

What is you next project!
I’m working on a third book in the Remedy series.

When you are in writer mode, music or no music? If music do you have a playlist?
No music. I need complete quiet. I listen before I write and get inspiration from all kinds of music.

Do you ever experience writer’s block?
Not really. Sometimes I don’t feel like writing, but once I make up my mind to get working, the words are there.

What is best writing advice you can give to someone who is beginning in the writing world or thinking about it.To write the book first, using lots of beta readers and being open to feedback. Once you have something you’re proud of and confident about, approach bloggers in a polite and respectful way. If the book is really great, it’s amazing how fast word will spread.

Fun with my "foster baby" Debra Doxer

If you had a superpower, what would it be?
The power Raielle has to heal in the Remedy books.

Where is one place you want to visit that you haven't been before?
Tahiti

If you were an animal in a zoo, what would you be?
I hate zoos because I hate seeing animals in cages. I have to abstain here. I wouldn’t want to be in a zoo and I wish no animals were in zoos.

If a genie granted you three wishes, what would they be? (can't ask for more wishes)
That my loved ones would always be happy and healthy. I have to throw in the predictable win the lottery one since college tuition will be close to a million dollars by the time my daughter gets there. World peace would be nice.

If you could go to the past or future, where would you stay and why?
I’d want to go into the future and see my daughter.

What was your favorite decade? (50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, etc.)
The 80’s was my decade, and if you ride in the car with me, you’ll hear a lot of Kate Bush, The Cure, and Morrissey.

If you can be a Disney character, who would you be and why?
Cinderella, the original cinderella story, and the girl so many romance stories are modeled after.

If you could meet anyone from history, who would you meet and why?
Jane Austen because she’s Jane Austen.

Today is Dawn's last day in her "foster home"
I have enjoyed having her here, I hope she has

Peeps may I introduce my "foster baby" for the week
Dawn Ibanez!

Author of the Maxwell Investigations & One For Sorrow

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a single mother that enjoys Video Games, Anime and Comics. I like crafting and a little sewing when I’m not forcing myself to write. I also watch a lot of action movies.

What do you do when you are not writing?
When I’m not writing, I’m usually either watching a movie, or playing a video game to be honest.

Do you write full-time or part-time?
I write part time. I wish it could be full time, but other things come up and I can’t get the time in.

When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
Oh god LOL! I started writing in middle school. I finished it right before summer school of ‘95. It was a horrid little western that I convinced my summer school teacher to let me use for a book report.

How would you describe your style of writing to someone that has never read your work?
LOL, I’m not sure how to answer that. There’s a lot of action involved. Depending on which storyline I’m dealing with there could be a lot of bloodshed, but there IS romance. I like to think I write a lot of Mr and Mrs Smith type couples.

What books/authors have influenced your writing?
I’ll list the authors, since there are way too many books LOL. Christine Feehan, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Larissa Ione, Janine Frost, Nalini Singh and JR Ward.

What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?
Reviews in general are great. But at the end of the day, they are 1 person’s opinion. I actually liked Andrew Garfield as Spiderman, but not everyone agrees. It’s why we’re all individuals.

What is you next project!
My next projects (I never work on just 1 thing) are Two for Joy, the next in the Murder of Crows series, and a new series based in the world of the Wild Hunt (this may just be a trilogy and something for me to pitch next year at RWA… if I go.

When you are in writer mode, music or no music? If music do you have a playlist?
I always listen to music. I can’t do silence. At all. I can’t even sleep in it. As for the playlist, yeah. When I start a project, the closest thing to outlining I do is find music that works for each of my characters, those are the character playlists. Then there are playlists for fight scenes, love scene, angry sex scenes LOL. And when in doubt, I just play Phantom of the Opera.

Do you ever experience writer’s block?
Like you wouldn’t believe.

What is best writing advice you can give to someone who is beginning in the writing world or thinking about it.
You’re going to fail. You’re going to fail a lot. You’re going to fall flat on your face. You’re going to get reviews that will hurt your heart and scar your soul. You are going to think you are the world’s worse, and that’s okay. Because there is no such thing as an overnight success and that’s okay too. But when you fall, when you fail, dust yourself off and keep going. And there are thousands of people in the writing community that will give you a hand up if you just ask for a little of advice. And asking for advice, or even help, is okay too.

Fun with my "foster baby" Dawn Ibanez

If you had a superpower, what would it be?
I would probably have the ability to control fire.

Where is one place you want to visit that you haven't been before?

Australia

If you were an animal in a zoo, what would you be?
A peacock… have you seen their feathers??? OMG beautiful!!!

If a genie granted you three wishes, what would they be? (can't ask for more wishes)
For the ability to control fire, perfect vision and never ending riches.

If you could go to the past or future, where would you stay and why?
I would go to the future. I would love to see how the world ends up after all of the decisions of today have been made.

What was your favorite decade? (50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, etc.)
This is hard! For TV and movies, can I say the 80s and Music and fashion the 90s??? I love both!!!!

If you can be a Disney character, who would you be and why?
LOL!!! I can’t lie. I would totally be Maleficent. I’ve never considered myself a princess. As a matter of fact, I used to be told repeatedly that I was mean and a lot like her. I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty to get a job done… and she turns into a dragon! Hello! LOL

If you could meet anyone from history, who would you meet and why?

Anne Bonny. I would love to meet her and watch her operate in such a male dominated world.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Regnery started her writing career by enrolling in a short story class in January 2012. One year later, she signed her first contract and Katy’s first novel was published in September 2013.

Twenty-five books later, Katy claims authorship of the multi-titled, New York Times and USA Today Blueberry Lane Series, which follows the English, Winslow, Rousseau, Story, and Ambler families of Philadelphia; the six-book, bestselling ~a modern fairytale~ series; and several other standalone novels and novellas.

Katy’s first modern fairytale romance, The Vixen and the Vet, was nominated for a RITA® in 2015 and won the 2015 Kindle Book Award for romance. Katy’s boxed set, The English Brothers Boxed Set, Books #1–4, hit the USA Today bestseller list in 2015, and her Christmas story, Marrying Mr. English, appeared on the list a week later. In May 2016, Katy’s Blueberry Lane collection, The Winslow Brothers Boxed Set, Books #1-4, became a New York Times E-book bestseller.

In 2016, Katy signed a print-only agreement with Spencerhill Press. As a result, her Blueberry Lane paperback books will now be distributed to brick and mortar bookstores all over the United States.

Katy lives in the relative wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, where her writing room looks out at the woods, and her husband, two young children, two dogs, and one Blue Tonkinese kitten create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories begin at home.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
Should we get started?” Bella gestured to the kitchen.
After you.”
She walked in front of Reed, hurrying to the table to pull out a chair. “Does this work?”
Yeah, it’s fine.” He sat down.
She immediately draped him with the black cover, wanting to get to his hair while it was still wet. “So, what are we doing here, exactly?”
Just a cleanup, especially on my neck.”
Sure.” She grabbed the sheers and took her place by his side, sliding her fingers though his short hair and stopped. “Oops.”
His shoulders tensed. “What?”
Just kidding. A little haircutting humor.”
He tilted his head up, meeting her eyes. “A comedian.”
She laughed as he smiled. “I haven’t even started cutting yet.” She gave him a bump. “Try to relax. I promise you’re in good hands.”
Chop away.”
Thanks.” She combed her fingers through his hair once more, using small snips to freshen up his look. Silent seconds ticked by as she breathed in the masculine scent that was Reed. He didn’t seem to wear cologne or use any fancy shampoos, but he smelled good just the same. “So, how was your day?”
Not too shabby.”
She worked her way around his head, finding his cut a breeze to clean up. He easily could have gone another week without any problems. “What did you do?”
Worked a little. Boxed.”
Fascinating.”
I could make up something about stopping a bank robbery in progress or rescuing a cat from a tree.”
She smiled. “The truth is fine, thanks.”
What about you?”
It was pretty much a normal day at the office—a second-session tattoo removal, a microdermabrasion, two stretch mark reductions, the usual stuff.”
What’s the tattoo of? The one you’re taking off?”
A woman’s name. Genevieve. The relationship didn’t work out.”
He winced. “Ouch.”
Triple ouch. Tattoo removal is not a pain-free procedure, nor is it cheap—and he went pretty ornate with Genevieve. Hopefully next time he’ll pick a woman with a shorter name or abstain from getting himself tatted up altogether.”
He laughed.
She grinned, loving that sound. Did he have any idea how gorgeous he was when he smiled like that? She picked up the clippers off the table and let her knees rest against his as she leaned in and gently lifted his chin, evening out his sideburns. She swallowed, feeling his breath on her skin and his eyes studying her face. Licking her lips, she met his gaze. “You better hope I get this part right, or you’ll have to tilt your head for the next four days.”
He sent her another one of his pulse-pounding smiles. “You’ll have to help me decide if I should lean more to the left or right.”
Oh, this cutie had the potential to be trouble. Her eyes darted to his mouth mere inches from hers as his five o’clock shadow tormented her sensitized fingers. She took a step back and a steadying breath. It was a good thing they were just friends—currently the only relationship status she was interested in.
