Hell, I could have run. I could have gotten in a cab and gone home. I didn’t even have a purse with me, only some cash in my back pocket. I hadn’t wanted anybody to find my ID and put two and two together. I didn’t. I stayed where I stood. Held in place by Drake’s voice. “Are you going to answer me?” he asked. I turned to him. “Could we not talk about this right here?” I asked, looking around. “It’s a little public out here.” “Fine.” He grabbed my arm and pulled me around to the side of the building, where there was no one but us. “Tell me what’s wrong with you.” “I thought after today you wanted me, is all. And I thought, okay, I’ll make a move. But you made me feel like…” “Like what? A slut?” He smirked. “You think this is funny? You’re disgusting!” I raised my hand to slap him, instinct taking over, and his hand was out in a flash to grip my wrist. He had the reflexes of a cat to go with the way he moved. “That’s more like it,” he murmured. “That’s the real you. Not the one who flashes her tits and tries to come on to me. You’re the girl who tries to hit me because she doesn’t know what else to do to pretend she doesn’t want me.” He leaned in, pushing me back until I was pressed against the sun-warmed bricks of the Clubhouse, still holding their heat from earlier in the day. My body burned the way they did. “Leave me alone, Drake.” “You act like that because you don’t like the way I talk to you. You’re not used to guys talking to you that way. But you like it. You like it when I do it, and you hate yourself for it, and you put up walls between us.” His body was against me, all muscle and strength and power. I felt the heat coming from him, too, just like that from the bricks. Sweat trickled down the back of my neck. “Stop this.” I turned my head away, as his mouth was so close to mine. “Not this way.” “What way?” “I don’t like it like this. Stop trying to overpower me. You don’t have to try so hard.” “And neither do you.” He placed a finger under my chin, turning my head until our eyes met. “I wouldn’t work so hard to get through to you if you didn’t work so hard to keep me away. Why don’t you just give in to what you want? What we both want?” “And that is what?” I could hardly breathe, my heart was racing so out of control. My knees were jelly, the blood rushing in my ears. “For me to take you to my room and give you a night you’ll never forget.” He brushed his lips against mine, ever so gently, causing a blazing inferno to erupt and consume me. I leaned further in, closer to him, but he pulled back with a devilish grin. “See? I know what you want better than you do. And I can give it to you.” He licked his lips. “You want it?” “Yes,” I breathed. It was so easy to give in. Drake was right.   About Tia Lewis: Tia Lewis is a romance author from the Midwest who writes about smart, sexy, sassy women and hot, possessive alpha males. When Cassie brushes off injuries from a suspicious incident, Trent’s need to serve and protect deepens into an alarming obsession over a woman who challenges his every instinct of self-preservation. Staying away from her is not an option, and he will be damned if he lets Cassie deny the growing attraction between them. But when the town’s secrets are revealed, he discovers he’s in over his head. Excerpt:

“You need to stop treating me like glass, Sheriff.” Her breath fanned the back of his ear while one hand trailed down the ridges of his abs, sending a bolt of lust spearing through his body. Trent twisted, and grabbed her neck, bringing her in for a quick, hard kiss. Then he broke free and sprung away from the bed as if it was on fire. He was breathing heavily. “You’re not ready for this.”
Cassie sighed in irritation. “Yes, I am.”
“Well, I’m not ready.”
Cassie tilted her head and stared right at his dick, raising a brow. “I think your cock begs to differ.”
“He’s an idiot.”
“Trent, I’m trying real hard to be patient here. If it wasn’t for your impressive erection, I’d be a little hurt and think you’re not attracted to me anymore.”
“That’s farthest from the truth.” Trent huffed out a mirthless laugh. “You of all people should know how crazy I am about you. I’m fucking in love with you, dammit!”
“Then talk to me. Tell me what’s bothering you.”
“I would if I knew exactly what it is. It’s just this unsettled feeling in my stomach waiting for the other shoe to drop.”
Cassie leaned over and switched on the night lamp, swinging her leg to sit on the side of the bed. The look of tenderness in her eyes almost sent him crashing to his knees.
“I can sleep soundly tonight because you’re here right beside me,” Cassie said softly. “You make me feel safe, Trent, and I know you’d protect me with everything you’ve got.”
Trent dropped to his knees anyway, spreading her thighs apart and replacing the space between them with his body. His hands cupped her face.
“I’d give my life to protect you,” he said fiercely.
“And I would do the same for you. I hope you know that,” Cassie responded just as fiercely.
“Don’t say that!”
A look of bafflement crossed her face. “Why not? It’s true—”
“Because I couldn’t stand it if you got hurt.” His words came out like a wounded growl.
“Trent. You’ve been doing so well not keeping me in a cage,” Cassie said sharply. “Don’t start now.”
“Then tell me how to love you, because I don’t want to fucking lose you!”

I live in Richmond, Va—less than two hours away from Washington DC—so most of the settings of my books are in the nation’s capital—of course, I’m not averse to creating fictional towns and cities. When I’m not arguing with the alpha male characters in my head, I love to watch high-octane action movies. I think Jack Bauer is the shit, which is why most of my characters are such badasses bent on saving the world from evil doers. I love reading adult contemporary, paranormal, urban fantasy, historical, romantic suspense, and a few new adult fiction as well as military non-fiction. If she has her way…

Willa Davis is wrangling puppies when Keane Winters stalks into her pet shop with frustration in his chocolate-brown eyes and a pink bedazzled cat carrier in his hand. He needs a kitty sitter, stat. But the last thing Willa needs is to rescue a guy who doesn’t even remember her…

…He’ll get nothing but coal in his stocking.

Saddled with his great-aunt’s Feline from Hell, Keane is desperate to leave her in someone else’s capable hands. But in spite of the fact that he’s sure he’s never seen the drop-dead gorgeous pet shop owner before, she seems to be mad at him…

Unless he tempers “naughty” with a special kind of nice…

Willa can’t deny that Keane’s changed since high school: he’s less arrogant, for one thing—but he doesn’t even remember her. How can she trust him not to break her heart again? It’s time to throw a coin in the fountain, make a Christmas wish–and let the mistletoe do its work…

Excerpt:

She watched Keane take in the two newest Christmas trees, one in front of O’Riley’s Pub, the other in front of Reclaimed Woods, both decorated in simple red and gold balls. The only sound around them was the soft trickle of the water flowing from the fountain and some lovelorn crickets mourning the dawn’s lack of warmth.
“Legend states that if you make a wish with a true heart, true love will find you,” she said.
He met her gaze. “Legend also states that if you put your tooth under your pillow the Tooth Fairy will leave you cash.”
She slowed, as always the fountain calling to her to make a wish. Keane slowed too, looking at her with a question.
She searched her pockets for change, but could only come up with a dog treat. “Damn.” It was the swear jar’s fault, all her spare change always ended up in there.
“What?”
“I wanted to make a wish,” she said.
A small smile crossed his face. “You want to make a wish? You’ve lived here for how long and you’ve never made one?”
“Oh, I have.” She paused. “I like to.”
This garnered her a raised brow. “How many times have you wished?”
She bit her lower lip.
“More than once?”
Well, crap. How had they gotten on this subject? “Um…”
“More than…five?”
“Gee, would you look at the time?” she asked and tried to go but he caught her and brought her back around, his smile now a broad grin.
“Fine,” she said. “If you must know, I toss a coin in every time I walk by.”
He lost the battle with his laughter and she stared at him. Seriously, he had the best laugh. “It worked for Pru, I’ll have you know,” she told him. “She wished for true love to find Finn, and then he fell in love with her.”
And Willa had been wishing ever since, even knowing how ridiculous and silly it was.
“So…you’ve been wishing for true love for who exactly?” he asked.
She stared at him in dismay. How had she not thought this through? “Me,” she admitted, slapping her pockets because surely she had even a penny. “But I intend to fix that right now. I’ll just wish for love for someone else.”
“Who?” he asked warily.
She narrowed her eyes at his fear. “You. Got any change?”

BLURB:

Only a fool steals from a wizard.

Talon Stormbringer thought he knew the risk of stealing from Viland Shadowbreaker - until he got caught. The wizard will spare him if Talon performs a service - fetch the deadly silver elixir from the Everway, a supernatural land that Talon assumed wasn’t real. Only children believe the stories about what lies within - lost souls, corrupted magic items, and mysterious destinations that most people never escape. Ruling over it all is the Ever Fiend, a bogeyman that people use to scare unruly youngsters into behaving.

Talon agrees to go, if only to stop Viland from doing something unholy with the potent elixir once retrieved. Joining him are a band of people he can’t trust. Their leader, a sorelia with nefarious plans of his own. The sorelia’s battle-trained mynx, a large cat who obeys only its master. An alluring swordswoman who wants to enchant her blades with the elixir. A cocky guard whose bravado might prove more liability than asset. A warrior kryll whose curiosity about the elixir might cost him more than his life. And a tortured Knight of Coiryn who seeks redemption in a place where most are damned. Of all the things they might discover on their journey, one is the most obvious and yet the hardest to learn...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
Suddenly freed, Talon squeezed his sword, flexed his limbs, and weighed some options. Quick as he was, no sword could fly faster than words. And while the taller shadow was likely the wizard, he had no idea to whom or what the other shadow belonged, and had to know before launching an attack. Besides, he could hardly assess his foes with his back to them. He slowly turned around, a scowl on his face.
A black-robed, balding man stood beside the empty pedestal, a reassuring smile on his swarthy face. Perhaps he was a Marulan from across the Antaran Sea. But Marulans were thought to be mostly savages, their skins as black as their deeds, and not wizards with an air of sophistication and opulence. The man did not have an accent that Talon could hear. The long face, nose, and limbs matched what Talon had heard from stories. The dark eyes of Viland Shadowbreaker observed him coolly.
Excerpt:
The dog was taller than our knees and its skin clung to its ribs, as if it hadn’t eaten in days. A half-chewed leash hung from its collar, and its ears and muzzle were pulled back. There was no question we were unwelcome guests.
Kaylee?” Anna said.
The dog began to growl. We both took a step back.
Do we run?” Anna rasped.
Are you crazy?” I whispered fiercely. “We can’t outrun a dog.”
What do we do?”
A sound rose and died in my throat. All I could see was the dog’s teeth. Last year I had been bitten by a stray in our neighborhood, and I still had the ankle scar to prove it.
The dog let out a wracking bark, startling us both back another step. My eyes skipped to Anna, then to the open doors on each side of us.
We can hide inside the rooms,” I said, speaking low and fast. “When I count to three, run into the room beside you and slam the door.”
Anna’s grip on my wrist tightened. “I can’t—”
You can,” I hissed. “If both of us go for opposite rooms, the dog won’t know which one to follow. That will confuse it and give us another second of time.”
Another second?”
Just get inside the room,” I said.
The dog lowered its head, shifting its muddy eyes from Anna to me. It knew who the threat was.
One,” I whispered.
Don’t make me do this,” Anna said.
My stomach knotted. “Two . . .”
The dog burst forward in a shambling run.
