Jennifer Pierce's upcoming debut novel!
Slow Motion

Blurb:

Owen and Angela were best friends for one summer, long before they could comprehend the secrets and politics that have left scars on their small New England hometown. Until their Senior year of high school, they’ve lived different lives in different parts of town.

For Angela, life in Westview has always been easy, her future mapped out by an influential family that has ruled the image-obsessed community for generations. She used to take comfort in that, but now, she wants something more than small towns. She wants the chaos of cities and the comfort of anonymity, a place free of assumptions and expectations.

No matter how hard Owen tries to reinvent himself, Westview won’t forget his family’s past. Despite his relationship with the town and the people in it, he’s drawn to its selective college and the opportunities it offers. He’s starting to think he might want to stay—something he knows he can’t afford and his friends won’t accept.

When their town’s Tercentennial causes them to reconnect, Owen and Angela are forced to reexamine their entire world. As the complexities of class and small town scandals come to light, the consequences of living in the past and trying to run away from it finally start to catch up to them.

Q & A with Jennifer Pierce about Slow Motion!

Tell us about Slow Motion.
Slow Motion is a YA novel about two childhood friends who reunite during their senior year of high school. While planning a Tercentennial celebration for their small New England hometown, they discover the secrets and complexities of both the town and its inhabitants.

What initially inspired you to write Slow Motion?
I was interested in the ideas of home and family legacy and how these play out in a setting that almost acts as a character itself. The main characters in the story have complex relationships with their hometown, which are further complicated by the possibility of leaving after high school. They’re also spending a lot of time digging into the past at a point in their lives when they’re supposed to begin thinking about their future. Because friendships, relationships, and even family expectations are a direct result of this town’s culture and history, the typical challenges of being a teenager are amplified when the characters’ last year there coincides with the anniversary of its founding.

Tell us little about the characters in Slow Motion.
Both main characters feel that they are defined by their hometown and are struggling to figure out who they are outside of it. Angela’s family has a longstanding legacy in the town and her parents have essentially mapped out her future for her. She has always followed their expectations but is now beginning to question what she really wants. Owen has tried to reinvent himself after a tragedy and knows exactly what he wants--his challenge is figuring out how to get there.

What was the hardest part of writing Slow Motion?
Angela was a difficult character to write. She is supposed to be unlikeable but I didn’t want her to simply be a stereotypical “mean girl.” I wanted readers to understand her motivations and insecurities.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
I had initially written the entire story from Angela’s perspective but during the revision process, I decided to add Owen’s perspective. Writing Owen’s chapters gave me new insights into my characters and added new dimensions to the story.

What are your future project(s)?
I’m currently working on short stories, flash fiction, and my next YA novel.

Is there anything else you would like to tell the readers about this book/series?
The novel is currently crowdfunding with Unbound, an innovative publisher that is changing the way readers interact with the publishing process. Each “pledge” is a preorder of the book with exclusive rewards depending on the pledge amount and when the book reaches its funding goal it gets published. Please take a moment to check out all the great projects on their site if you’d like to have a say in what gets published.

Excerpt:

My heart skips two beats and then starts pounding against my breastbone.

“Henry!” I shriek, unable to keep any level of composure thanks to my excitement. I take off, running as fast as I can in flip-flops, ignoring the pain in my chest that comes with running in a bikini with crappy support.

He leans back against the side of the truck with his legs crossed at the ankles and his hands tucked into his pockets, and watches me approach with that sexy smirk curling his lip. A smirk he has perfected and should outright trademark.

I may look like a childish idiot, but I don’t care, the gravel crunching under my feet as I tear across the driveway and throw myself at his hard body, my arms snaking around his neck to lock in a tight squeeze.

He slips his hands from his pockets to scoop me up with ease, his deep chuckle vibrating throughout my body. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a welcome quite like that,” he murmurs, setting me on the ground after a long moment.

I take a moment to catch my breath as I admire his marvelous face, committing his crystal-blue eyes and long dark lashes to a fresh memory. And those lips… I miss the feel of them on me so much. “What are you doing here? I thought you were in Prague?” I ask through pants.

His gaze drops to my mouth, and my thighs clench instantly in anticipation. “I was, but I had to be in New York tonight for a meeting. I figured I’d stop here first. I can’t stay too long, though.” He leans forward and I close my eyes, waiting eagerly for his kiss. But he pauses. “Why are you all wet?”

“Oh.” I giggle. “I was just in the pond.”

“Hard at work, I see.” He gives me a mock frown but I know he’s teasing.

“We’ve been busting our butts all morning actually. Just took a break to cool off, it’s so hot.”

“Yeah, I’m missing the Alaska temperatures right now.” There’s a pause. “Who’s we?”

“Just my two summer workers. And Jed, of course.”

If my arms hadn’t been around Henry’s neck, I probably wouldn’t have noticed the sudden tension that stiffens him. “Fuckface?”

“Yeah. He’s been helping around here, a lot. I told you that.”

“Right.” He frowns. “How often is that, again?”

“He’s here every day.”

Every day.”

“You know I can’t do this on my own, Henry.”

“Which is why I offered to arrange for help.”

“And you know exactly why I couldn’t take you up on that.” Mama outright refused to accept his offer. It’s not for pride, because she’s had no trouble accepting help from every last member of our church.

“I’ve been told that she hasn’t stayed at the hotel, either.”

“The Enderbeys have a cousin in Pittsburgh she’s staying with.” In a spare bedroom with no air conditioning that requires Mama—all 370 pounds of her—to climb three flights of stairs every day. Even Jed’s dad tried to persuade her to take Henry’s offer of a luxury suite at the Wolf, but she won’t willingly accept a dime from “the wolf who’s preying on her daughter’s innocence.”

He shakes his head. “Stubborn woman.”

“I know. There’s nothing I can do. I’ve tried to reason with her.” I can’t tell anymore if her pigheadedness is borne of her being hung up on having her daughter married to the Reverend’s son, or that she simply wants me within arm’s reach until the day she dies, and she won’t have that if I’m with a man like Henry.

“They’re releasing Daddy today, though. Isn’t that great?” I lean against his body, letting my fingers slide over all the hard ridges and contours of his beautiful back and then his shoulders, and his arms. I stretch onto my tiptoes, wanting to go back to the part where he kisses me.

Henry’s attention is not easily swayed though. “Does he know you’re not his anymore?”

I sigh. “Yes. He’s trying to convince me otherwise, but I’ve told him many times.”

I skate my lips over his. He finally takes the hint, his hands grippingthe sides of my waist, sealing his lips over mineand kissing me with a level of skill that I might consider being concerned with, if I wasn’t so head-over-heels infatuated with him.

A tiny moan escapes me and he instantly deepens the kiss, forcing my mouth open wide to make room for his tongue. My hands wander over his chest, molding over his curves. “I’ve been thinking about this moment for weeks,” I whisper against his mouth. My daydreams always end with my hands moving south, into his jeans. If we weren’t out in the open, it’s exactly what I’d be doing already.

“Phone calls aren’t enough, then?”

“Not even close.”

Blurb:

Reese King: Olympic medalist, underwear model, Greek god.

His body is chiseled from rock, sculpted by the weight room, and refined by water.

On a daily basis his skin is completely bare for everyone to see, tan and defined, only covered up by a minuscule piece of spandex. There is no denying his sex appeal.

I hate to admit it, but I’m head over heels infatuated with him.

There is one HUGE problem though. His achingly gorgeous abs, inked up arm, and cocky swagger belong to my boss, the high-profile, reality star bitch from hell and certified heinous human being, Bellini Chambers.

What I think is going to be an easy job assisting a glorified wench turns into a cluster f*ck of epic proportions.

Review:                                   5 Stars

Wow, I did the mistake in reading the 2nd book of the series and fell in love with the story so of course I had to go and get the 1st book to find out what I missed, and wow the 1st story was great story. The olympics, the swimmers holly molly was I ever so glued to the story. Reese Kingan Olympian who is on his last Olympic games and hopes to bring home the Gold medal the only one that has evaded him.
To help his career after the Games he is in a contract to work and show he is engaged to Bellini. Bellini is one of these people or woman that for crying out loud someone end her, wipe her out, because even Lucifer the devil is nicer than her.
Paisley who after struggling to get back into she show business ends up working for Bellini and Reese, she does try to avoid Reese but oh man that is like fighting a losing battle, their attraction to each other is way out there. Their adventures take you to parts of the states while he does the trials and training for the Olympics to the ultimate trip down to Rio. The book was fantastic, well writen, funny that I could not help but laugh and at times sad, but in the end all is well. Meghan thank you so much for a great book that took me on a adventure of the day.

EskieMama Reads Review: Hopeless Romantic by Seth King

Hopeless Romantic
by Seth King

Blurb:

After losing his engagement to the woman he thought would be the great love of his life, twenty-three-year-old aspiring journalist Graham Herrera is in pieces. After four months, though, it becomes clear just how he can get his life back on track and reassemble his soul: write a book about his lost love and shed her bad blood forever. There’s just one problem: that would make him a “male romance author,” and according to society, men know nothing about romance, right?

Humorous and heartwarming, Seth King’s Hopeless Romantic is an inside look at what happens when you toss away the world’s judgments and decide to write your own future, one romance novel at a time.

Review:                                   5 Stars

Wow, Seth King you are absolutely amazing. Yes I have read books writen by male authors even the romance ones, But by far most of their books were the adventure, crime and just plain male field. Can men write from a woman's point of view, heck yes they can and surprisingly I noticed that it's far more tender and oh heck it got to me ok.
So that your character Graham Herrera went through was not something easy to go through. Yet you managed to capture the feelings so well. I don't want to say much more here so I do not give the book or plot away, but I will be reading more books from you and other male authors if they write about romance. Loved the book.

Review:                                      5 stars

I wanted to write a astonishing review here, I can see the words floating in my head, but all I can do it say the book was fantastic, wonderful, romantic and full of action.
Dawn/Torunn and Garret/Geir. Their story begins when Vikings still ruled the seas way back when. Present time finds both of them hurt and suffering, Dawn is attacked by Asmund Garret's maker and she is drawn back again to Garret and the Coven, old friends visit too, and it was nice to see them again.
What more can I say, I found the story captivating and loved every minute of it, could not puts it down till I finished it and I know I will visit Winterset again and again. Can't wait for more books from this Author, I just wish I had more of a flair with words then I do. Thank you for a super great story and a trip into a great book.

From his dirty-blond hair and breathtaking smile, to the abs from heaven and the irresistible V in his waistline, everything about Bodi Olympic-gold-medalist Banks screams hot piece of @$$.

Yet there’s more.

Dark shadows lurk behind his soulful, serious eyes.

I’m enamored. He’s captured me.

How can running an art foundation with Bodi Banks turns into a slow-burning, epic romance, even though he tries to push me away at every chance? How can I stay away from a broken, routine-driven man whose soul cries to be forgiven for a crime only he believes he committed? Or is that a lie?

Review:                                  5 stars

Ha honest, jeez this book was so good, from the 1st page, learning what Happened to Bodi and his sister, the things both had to overcome. Bodi what can I say, and Ruby a firecracker, she flies into Bodi's life and slowly changings things.
Both begin a journey like not other I have red, this book made my cry, giggle and laugh, both of them were something, and Eva and Lauren, the things said had me in stitches, did not want to put the book down, so good it was, looking forward to reading more, and hopefully having a smile on my face when I am done. Not going to go into much more detail, do not want to ruin this for other readers and give away the story.
Meghan Quinn thank you so much for taking me on a wonderful and loving story, you wove magic words and turned it into something that you should be proud of.
