Teaser Blitz: Hometown Cowboy by Sara Richardson

Today we are sharing some teasers for HOMETOWN COWBOY by Sara Richardson. This is the first book in her brand new series, Rocky Mountain Riders. It is currently up for pre-order and will be released February 28, 2017!

Jessa Mae Love is done with relationships. No matter how tempting he might be, she cannot--will not--fall for a man like Lance Cortez. The outrageously handsome cowboy is practically a living legend in Colorado, as famous for riding bulls as he is for breaking hearts. What would a big-time rodeo star like him see in a small-town veterinarian who wears glasses, rescues animals, and cries when watching rom-coms? Turns out, plenty.

Raising bulls, riding the circuit, and looking after his ailing father--Lance never stands still for long. Yet Jessa catches his attention, and the more she tries to resist him, the more he wants her. When she agrees to move to the ranch to keep an eye on Lance's dad, Jessa tells him they have to keep it professional: no flirting, no sweet talk, and definitely no kissing. But with Jessa now living under his roof, that's easier said than done . . .

Falling in love with your boss's wife is never a good idea, especially when you're a mobster.

When Nicky tells Mia he's too busy to attend her college reunion, and wants to send one of his underlings to accompany her, Mia is completely fed up.

Until she discovers it is Luka Russo who will be escorting her. He's handsome, charming and sensitive, definitely not the typical mobster.

Mia is completely captivated by him.

And Luka is just as smitten with Mia.

But if they act on their feelings for each other Luka may end up sleeping with the fishes.

Q & A with Dakota Madison about The Killer In You

What initially inspired you to write The Killer in You?
I was a huge fan of The Sopranos when it was on television. I always wanted to write a Mafia romance. When this idea came to me I found a way to fit it into my Back to Bookman #LoveinMidlife romance series.

Tell us little about the characters in The Killer in You.Mia is in her 40s. She raised two children, who have both left home. She and her husband have drifted apart. He’s had affairs in the past, but this time things are different. He doesn’t want to be with Mia any longer. He sends his right-hand man, Luka, to keep an eye on Mia at her college reunion. Luka is supposed to keep other guys away from Mia, but ends up falling for her himself.

What was the hardest part of writing The Killer in You?
I don’t have children, so I always find it challenging to write about a woman who has kids.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why? This was one of my favorite books to write. It really flowed. I think it’s because the main character is in my age range and I could relate to her feelings.

What are your future project(s)?
I am working on two more novels for the Back to Bookman #LoveinMidlife series. I am also going to interconnect the books with a Bookman College New Adult Romance series, so the college age students and their parents can all find love!

Is there anything else you would like to tell the readers?
I hope you will check out the other books in the #LoveinMidlife series. They all feature characters in their 40s, who are attending their 25th college reunion. Now an exciting excerpt from The Killer In You!

What I think might be a quiet day turns out to be anything but. As soon as the boss enters our small office I can see he’s got something on his mind. The lines etched on his forehead are more prominent than usual and his lips are puckered.

I know better than to ask what’s wrong. He’ll tell me when he’s ready. Then he’ll make me solve whatever difficulties he’s dealing with.

That’s the way it works in this business. As the underboss I’m the one who makes all of the boss’s problems go away.

Nicky likes to keep his legitimate business, the Pizza King, separate from his not-so-legal business dealings, so the office we use for our mob activities is located in a strip mall between a nail salon and a copy shop. Our front is a real estate office, but we never actually have any listings or sell houses. But we do have a broker, who makes a nice salary for sitting out front and handling any walk-ins or phone calls.

Nicky takes a gulp of his black coffee before he turns his attention to me.

“There’s something I’d like for you to do.” He points a finger at me. “You’re the only person I can really trust.”

Good morning to you too. “Anything. You know you just have to ask.”

A few months ago someone tried to whack Nicky. Luckily the shooter botched the hit. We all thought the Philly-South Jersey crew was responsible, but we haven’t found any proof yet.

Maybe Nicky discovered something and he’s ready for retaliation.

“I’d like you to escort my wife to her college reunion.”

That’s completely out of left field. “What?”

“Her reunion,” he repeats a little louder, as if hearing him was the problem.

The problem is the request is ridiculous. As fond as I may be of Mia, babysitting his wife isn’t in my job description.

“Why can’t you accompany her?” I realize my question may come across as insubordination, which is definitely frowned upon in our line of work, but his request goes above and beyond my job requirements.

Break a guy’s legs; that’s something I can do in my sleep. Take his wife to some dance; I don’t think so.

“I don’t remember this being a democracy. I give the orders and you carry them out. That’s the way this thing of ours works.”

I blow out air hoping to make his request somehow magically disappear. No such luck. He’s looking at me with anticipation.

“When is her reunion?”

“Labor Day weekend.” He gives me a sly grin.

He’s been talking our ears off about going to Tampa for the holiday weekend to spend time with his new comare. Apparently she’s a hot young nurse and he’s crazy about her.

Even though it’s common for guys like us to have mistresses it’s not something I approve of. I’ve never been a believer in multitasking, especially with affairs of the heart.

I believe a man should cherish the woman he has at home, especially if she’s the mother of his children.

On this point I differ from nearly all of my friends. Most of the guys in our crew want to have their cannoli and eat them too.

“It’s the whole weekend?” I ask.

He nods. “Bookman is a small town. The hotel was sold out, but I was able to talk the owners into renting Mia one of their suites. It has a separate bedroom and you get the sleeper couch in the living room.”

I remember driving through Bookman once on my way to Old Town. I blinked twice and missed the place.

“Why do you need for me to go with her?”

“Because I said so. Isn’t that reason enough?”

“Of course, but is there anything specific I should be doing while I’m there?”

He nods. “You need to make sure no one touches Mia. Capisce?”

“Do you really think that’s going to be a problem?” Not that I don’t think his wife is an attractive woman, but she seems to be devoted to Nicky.

The two of them were high school sweethearts. They’ve been together for years.

“I attended one of my high school reunions.” He holds up his index finger for emphasis. “I know what goes on. A lot of reconnecting with old flames. I don’t want any of those guys even thinking about reconnecting with Mia.”

“Got it, boss.”

“If anyone lays a hand on my wife, make sure he loses his hand. If anyone puts any other body parts where they don’t belong make sure he loses those too.”

He makes a point of staring at my crotch, as if I’d engage in any type of indiscretion with his wife. I value my job, and my body parts, too much.

“Anything else?”

“Have fun dancing to Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.”

               5 stars

The Mafia, wow the book was not quite what I thought it was going to be, I was expecting everything Mafia, fights, killing and God only knows what else goes on. We do have a lovely triangle here Nicky in charge the big Boss, one that not only does what he needs to do, but has mistress a galore and pretty much ignores his wife, Mia his lovely wife, ignored and very aware of her philandering husband and what he does. Loyal Luka who has feeling for Mia.

Mia wants to go the her 25 year reunion, Nicky tells her he has to go to Florida, but send Luka with her to watch over her and make sure no man touches her. Now that made me laugh, here is one man having affairs to the left and right but God forbid his wife looks at another man.

To find out what happens, please read the book, it's a lovely story and easy to read, and you will love the characters, Dakota Madison thank you for a great trip through your imagination.

The words “hello there” ploughed down the silent hallway as Tiffany’s roadside linebacker advanced with a synchronized arm and leg crutch-walk.

Tiffany bit her cheek while she watched her father grab the railing on the wall. She stepped forward. “Tiffany George of George’s Family Plumbing. There’s a water break.”

His gaze traveled up from her chest to the collar of her pink coveralls and then to the top of her head, where she was sure her spikes had tumbled like dominoes. Then down to the tips of her lime-green boots. “Nice boots, real nice boots.”

Tiffany tugged at the weight of the tool bag across her body.

A sprite of many talents, I see.” He gripped his walking aids.

We can’t all be just a pretty face.” She could have bitten off her tongue.

He raised his eyebrows and his eyes sparkled. They weren’t black after all, but a deep brown.

You think I’m pretty?” He sounded amused.

She took a wide stance and began an assessment of him from the tip of his dusty loafers, gray trousers, a rumpled white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows exposing firm, and tanned arms. His whiskers shadowed across his firm jaw, his full lips held neutral, his straight nose and those dark watchful eyes had deep etched laugh lines around them. “You have a certain road weariness that I’d like to capture on paper.” Reaching with her callused fingers, she touched his beard.

Q & A with Annette Bower

Thank you for hosting me today as part of the Goddess Fish Virtual Book Tour for Fearless Destiny.

What books/authors have influenced your writing?
Canadian author, Lucy Maud Montgomery. She wrote the Anne of Green Gables series, by using her experiences as a young girl. She often commented on the significance of place, but studies indicate that readers don’t often recall specifics of setting, it is the story they recall. Montgomery married but was committed to being a writer. She commented that her first book was “something, which but for me, would never have existed.” I explore the theme about the fine line between selfishness and selflessness for artists in Fearless Destiny.

Also Frances Hodgson Burnett, author of The Secret Garden. She used Mary’s growth and the bringing back to life of the garden as the central symbol. She showed the magic healing brought about by caring for one another and the living things around us.

Tell us something you hate doing. Why?
I procrastinate downsizing my book collection because they are touchstones for me. I may not have opened their covers for awhile but just knowing they are there is comforting. However, they do take over my office and others would surely benefit from having them.

Share a funny incident in your life.

I'm directionally challenged so getting lost is easy for me and finding my way back to where I started is sometimes difficult. I had been away on a boat cruise and I couldn’t seem to find my way across Liberty Bridge that connects Buda and Pest across the river Danube, to get back to the docking area. After many false starts, I decided to follow this man who appeared to know where he was going. He did walk off the bridge and when he stopped to relieve himself in a bush, I carried on. I’ve often said, “I wish someone would invent shoes with a GPS in them.” But then I wouldn’t have stories to tell.

When you are in writer mode, music or no music?
When I’m working, no music but I get many story ideas and emotions from country music. I like the stories the songs tell. One of my favorites is: You Can’t Make a Heart Love Somebody by George Strait. … “You can lead a heart to love but you can’t make it fall.”

Who was your favorite hero/heroine?

Gracie Hart played by Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality. Gracie abhors everything the US Beauty Pageant stands for but she goes undercover and shows what women do to their bodies to be beautiful. She is independent but also wants love. I usually smile when she says to her partner Eric Mathews, after she is beautiful, “You want to kiss me. You want to hug me. You want to marry me.” To give Eric credit he does recognize her qualities before her transformation.

Have you ever had one character you wanted to one way with but after the book was done the character was totally different?

In Fearless Destiny I wanted to write Tiffany’s mother as a kind woman but she had her issues with Tiffany and she wanted to air them. In many ways she was jealous of the special relationship Tiffany had with her father when the mother really wanted a daughter who dressed in frilly dresses and would get married and continue the family with grandchildren. Rather than the Tiffany who qualified for a plumber and was the partner qualified to take over the family plumbing business.

Thank you for the opportunity to share a little about myself with your followers today.
Yours truly,
Francis Hodgson Burnett:
