Q & A with Megan Lowe about Breaking the Cycle

What initially inspired you to write Breaking the Cycle?
I was reading a lot and had the time to discover what I did and didn't like in the books I was reading so I made a list and decided to write a story incorporating a lot of those things. I also wanted to write a story that involved motorbike racing. There's a heap of MC romances out there but not many that involve street bikes, which I love, so I wanted to incorporate those.

Tell us little about the characters in Breaking the Cycle.
Reed is the guy I want to marry. He's loyal, protective and when he meets Bria he's utterly unashamed of his feelings towards her even though he was a bit of a manwhore before.

Bria is a strong woman. She's intelligent and has a heart of gold. When she first gets involved with the Ryan's she genuinely wants to help them, even if it's an inconvenience to her.

What was the hardest part of writing Breaking the Cycle?
Turning it from something I wrote for myself to something my publisher wanted to publish. Initially I didn't pay attention to the little details, I didn't see reason to, the story was just for me after all, but then Hot Tree wanted to publish it and I had to pay attention to all of that stuff, I had to make sure it was something people wanted to read and would like, so it put me in a whole different headspace.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
My favourite part to write was, and spoiler alert here, when Bria and Reed found out they were pregnant. I think there's something incredibly sexy about a guy who's absolutely ecstatic that he's going to be a father and doesn't hide it.

What are your future project(s)?
I'm currently writing book 2 of the Rocking Racers series. This book focuses on Cole and Knley.

I've also made a tentative start on Book 3 which will be Mav’s book.

In September I'll be part of an anthology called Unintentional, released by Hot Tree. It's a best friends to lovers anthology and my contribution is called Just like Always.

Virtual Tour w/Giveaway: Welcoming the Bad Boy by Annie Rains

Griffin is going to need all his old tricks to unleash her wild side.

Hero's Welcome #3
Annie Rains
Releasing August 2nd, 2016

From the bestselling author of Welcome to Forever (“Full of heart and emotion!”—Lori Wilde) comes a sweet, sexy novel about breaking all the rules. In Seaside, North Carolina, the boys on the base are heroes—but that doesn’t mean they’re always well-behaved.

As a preacher’s daughter, Valerie Hunt only dates the very respectable, very boring men who meet her father’s strict standards. In private, however, she leads a double life as a romance writer of steamy stories about the least respectable sorts of men. Valerie has always kept her hottest fantasies separate from her real life, but when she nearly runs a hot-blooded biker off the road, the lines begin to blur.

Even though Valerie almost killed him, Griffin Black can’t be angry after he learns the reason for her distracted driving: an unruly puppy belonging to her ailing friend. As a member of the military police K-9 unit, Griffin insists on training the dog himself. But he soon wonders how he’s ever going to stay disciplined around the most alluring, down-to-earth, and totally unattainable woman he’s ever met. Valerie is the ultimate good girl. And Griffin is going to need all his old tricks to unleash her wild side.

She wrapped the dry towel around her body and collected her clothes to go seek out Griffin’s dryer. When she opened the bathroom door, he was standing in front of her. His eyes traveled south. Really, a towel covered as much as any of her strapless dresses. Strapless dresses involved hooks and zippers, though. All Griffin had to do if he wanted to see her naked was pull the end of the towel tucked beneath her arm.
She took a breath, really wanting him to pull. What was the point of a summer fling if she couldn’t live out her wildest fantasies? In fact, if she were writing one of her books right now, her heroine would probably tire of waiting to see what the gorgeous bad boy was going to do and drop the towel herself.

Val slowly lifted her arm and dropped the towel to her feet. No going back now, which was completely fine with her.
“What are you doing?” Griffin asked. There was a deep edge to his voice.
“Drying off.” Her heart thudded inside her chest. Her hands were shaking. This wasn’t like her. She didn’t seduce men. She should pick her towel up off the floor right now and pretend like that was an accident.
Instead, she stood frozen.
Griffin reached for her in the dark hallway, tracing a finger from her neck down to her breast.
Then he anchored a hand on her waist and pulled her toward him, kissing her again, harder this time. Deeper. A little gasp caught in her throat as his other hand reached between her legs and started to caress her, finding a rhythm that had her clutching his still wet body to keep from falling on the ground.
She reached for the hem of his shirt and started to lift his wet clothes off him. Unbuttoning his jeans, she pressed them down, working until he was as naked as she was.
“Are you sure this is what you want? We’re breaking all the rules in those romance novels you like to read,” he said, his voice gravelly.
She swallowed, burning for him. Needing to feel his hands on her. His mouth. His tongue. “I want this. I want you.”
A small smile lifted his mouth. He took her hand and started leading her down the hallway, passing Trooper as they went.
“Sorry, buddy. You have to stay behind,” Griffin called, pulling her into his bedroom and shutting the door. “If it starts to thunder we’ll have to stop,” he said between kisses.
“A woman should never come between a man and his dog,” Val agreed.
“You know me so well.” He kissed her again and then he pulled her toward his bed.

5 stars

All I can say is that is a lovely story between Val a preacher's daughter and Griffin a tough Marine. Val has a secret, not only is she a preacher's daughter she lives in a lovely small town Seaside. That being said she is an Author with a writer's block, her agent tells her she needs a distraction and a man in her life.
Well Val listened, she met this bad looking boy, everything her Father would not like, but Val did, what started as a summer fling took several turns until we can find out if things would work out for both of them. Loved the book, well writen it flowed, thank you Annie Rains for a great story.

Guest Post

I read once that someone commits suicide when their pain becomes greater than their capacity to cope. I’m not sure that’s completely it. Or that anything as horrifying as suicide can ever be termed so simply. But the words carried truth, none the less. And stuck with me.
For Love of Money is a romance with a happy ending. It’s a clean read. A family read. It’s also a ttq novel which means it’s going to have some intense emotional fiction on those pages. I don’t choose what to write about. I write what comes to me. In this book, I thought I was writing about a hormonal teenager who was ‘all about me’ and maybe even a bit of a brat. Instead, I was presented with Kelsey. I love this girl. She’s strong. And nurturing. She’s also a kid struggling with a horrible secret that no one knows about. It’s a secret that is driving her into serious bouts of depression. Her doctor father, and her counselor, both fear she might become suicidal. Wow. That’s a long way from where I started.
But, as always, I gave up my way and took the journey. Kelsey’s story has sadness. It has angst and darkness. But when you read her, you feel her strength. You feel her capacity for joy. You feel all of the love she has to give. As I finished this book, I felt like I wanted to be Kelsey when I grew up. Emotionally grew up, at least. I felt like I still have a ways to go. But I have a road map. All from a thirteen year old kid.

This is why I read romance. And why I write it. Because there are so many things we don’t know. So many roads to travel. Journeys to take. Things to find that will make our lives happier. Nuances that we might not know or be able to access or accept, but that, when we read, we can feel. I’m not saying that Kelsey’s journey will turn your life around, but I’d bet that, at the very least, she’ll warm your heart. And who can ever have too much of that?

Sixteen-year-old Smiley Hanlon is a young woman tethered to a young man's body.  In the 1950's Appalachia coal fields of Solitude, Virginia, Smiley is placed in the "Mentally Retarded Class" because he is effeminate and wears a blouse and saddle shoes to school.

Smiley is backed by his best friend, Lee Moore who protects Smiley from a father and many townspeople who hate him.  Smiley has dreams of becoming an entertainer.  Raised by his aunt in a juke joint, as a child Smiley sings and dances on the Formica bar top into the wee hours.  Chosen as the female lead, Dorothy, in a new town production called Dorothy of Oz Coal Camp, his dream is being realized.  The triumph of the play and his dream is sabotaged by his father and classmate bullies culminating in a tragic and horrific moment that changes both Smiley and Lee, forever.

Smiley and Lee flee to NYC.  They learn that prejudice is prejudice whether in the coal fields of Virginia or on the streets of NYC. Smiley suffers at the hands of his real mother who is a religious zealot.  She tries to change who Smiley is because he is a boil on the body of Christ. Lee suffers at the hands of psychologists who practice Aversion Therapy-electric shock treatment to cure his homosexuality.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.  Both Smiley and Lee become forces of change as do countless others.  In 1969, Smiley Hanlon and his friend, Lee emerge as leaders of a gay revolution, the historical Stonewall Riots.  The riots are vicious but the real battle will be won or lost on another continent: Solitude, Virginia.

The Grass Sweeper God is a force of nature that flows through all things...straightens out that which is bent...which is sick...

Lettie sat on the twin bed with the gun and the letter in her lap.  She noticed Brac’s graduation picture sitting on the nightstand.  She turned it face down.  She placed the love letter from Brac’s lover on top of his graduation picture.  She placed Ted’s bankbook, her letter to Ted, her cat-eyeglasses and dentures beside Brac’s turned-down picture.  She lay down on the bed.  She stretched out and placed the gun at her side and stared at the ceiling.  She thought about her children.  She had never owned them, never owned herself, and now they could choose their own road in life.  But she could choose when to exit this world and how.  She had to get out of her head, out of her heart.  Tears like the mistakes she had made in life flowed down her face.  She put the gun under her ribs and pulled the trigger.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

DOUG HOWERY has been writing both fiction and essays since 1990. His essays and familial stories have appeared in The Blue Ridge Lambda Press.
In many of his stories, as in "The Grass Sweeper God," Mr. Howery's true lode, his font of inspiration is in the passion and suffering he has experienced.
Author, Doug Howery penned the novel with insight into his own struggle for sexual identity and personal tragedy. His mother committed suicide in 1982, blaming her two sons' sexual identity in a letter and declaring herself a martyr for intolerance and social bigotry. She referred to her own sons as "Gutter Rats that Could Rot in Hell" and represents the hate and mistrust that have plagued society.
Suspense author, Maggie Grace, with the North Carolina Writers' Network writes about her cohort Mr. Howery: "What I like is the riskiness, the cutting edge of the narrative voice we hear. The moments when he lapses into descriptions of the moon, of the horse, etc. are true poetry that offers some relief from the coarseness of the story, and he places them well. He has an ear for the rhythm of the story, a natural sense of when to end--hangs fire with a new way of looking at someone or something, turning the entire chapter on its ear. I like the way he makes it impossible for the reader to stop reading at the end of the chapter."
Mr. Howery lives in Virginia with his partner of 34 years where he is at work on his next novel.
