BAND OF BACHELORS: ALEX by NYT Bestselling Author Sharon Hamilton goes on sale June 14th!

Adrenaline junkie and Navy SEAL Alex Kowicki is one of four bachelor SEALs trying to navigate his successful military career while achieving his goals as a first class connoisseur of beautiful women. He isn't ready to jump back into anything but his free falls, HALO drops or his missions overseas. He trusts his buddies to fix him up with another blind date that won't be as dangerous as his last ones.

But Sydney Robinson has other plans. A beach volleyball player who can spike better than most men, she knows how to execute a series of events that include stalking the handsome SEAL all the way to Sonoma County, capturing him in a winery and delivering his carcass to her bed for keeps. Along the way, the two of them fight a home-grown terrorist cell in a duel that might cost one of them their lives.

Q & A with Sharon Hamilton about Band of Bachelor's: Alex

Tell us about your Band of Bachelors series books?
Band of Bachelors is my third SEALs series. The SEAL Brotherhood is the original 7 books, based on the men in SEAL Team 3, based out of San Diego, and under the leadership of their LPO, Kyle Lansdowne (Accidental SEAL). Then came the Bad Boys of SEAL Team 3.

Band of Bachelors are 5 guys, and they all should have a story, who live together in an apartment, all divorced, in various stages of dating or serial dating, mostly with money problems, child custody issues and things arising from a general lack of good decisions on their part. They are, however, still heroes. They do their job 100% as a SEAL. They need help in the female department--not getting females, but maintaining healthy relationships.

What initially inspired you to write about Navy SEAL’s.
I have a family member who spent 10 years as a SEAL, and through that person, have met many others. The more I study them, the more excited I am to write their stories. My way to keep some of them safe, since I get to have a HEA.

Tell us little about the characters in this book.
My newest book Band of Bachelors: Alex, is about Alex Kowicki, a high-intensity individual who has trouble doing things halfway, or toned down. He’s always compromised, when it comes to women, compartmentalizing them in the entertainment category. But for the first time, he meets another elite warrior, an athlete, Sydney Robinson, who is attempting to make the pro AVP beach volleyball circuit.

Their passion for life and intensity mask a vacancy in their souls neither understands until they meet each other and discover they are so much alike. We meet them at a crossroads in their career. Alex considers further involvement with SEAL Team 6, while Sydney sets out a year-long course to train to go pro. Will one or both of them survive this relationship, or those that would try to separate them forever?

What was the hardest part of writing this book?
I talk about writing about personality disorders in my blog this week:

Here’s a lovely song that encompasses this:

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
I think this one, because it has a very beautiful passage in Alex’ POV. I like the way he’s discovered himself here.

I know this has nothing to do with the book but I just have to know is JD Hart’s voice as sexy in person as in your audiobooks. I love reading your books but listening to your audiobooks and having JD talk in my ear makes me all hot & bothered. He has ruined me for all other audiobooks.

Well, I prefer the headsets, to be honest. But it’s wonderful to be around him. We are close friends, not partners in any way, except in these collaborations. We’re both lucky to have found each other, and to be able to work with another talented person is just the thrill of a lifetime.

We come from different ages, and times, live in different circumstances and parts of the country, and our backgrounds are vastly different. So, when we get together, we’re asking all sorts of questions. It’s totally different than listening to him on an audio book. That’s where all the dreaming and fun happens.

But in person, we are both shy, and I think a little awkward. But it’s always a joy to see him again. We’re lucky we both are married to people who understand the purity of our friendship and the energy it gives us both.

I’m ruined for other narrators as well. No one else would ever come close. But that’s me. I figured if I had a strong reaction to his voice, my readers would as well.

And now a Special Excerpt from BAND OF BACHELORS: ALEX…
She hesitated. He was good at brushing people off. Regardless of their world-class evening and morning, he could separate that. He could walk away. Her heart fluttered slightly as she realized perhaps she could not. Or just didn’t want to.
“So what do you want to know?”

“Who are you, Sydney?”
the second or third date, just before she was about to exit stage right.
Her answer was measured, and well practiced.
“I want more out of life than life’s given me so far, but I’m not complaining. I just want more of it. I want the juice of life, not to live life. I’m looking to get a good partner and travel the world playing volleyball until my knees ache and my back or shoulder gives out. And after volleyball? Who knows what I can do at eighty?” She gave him the smile she’d given so many other dumbstruck men over the few years since she’d been dating. It was always the same. It also usually got same reaction.
But this time, she saw something ignite inside Alex. The backdrop of lonely sea gull cries, the salty gentle breeze and the sounds of metal clanging as work began late at the docks, only enhanced the excitement brewing in her belly. She was struck with the beauty and power of something maybe dangerous about this man. And also something so beautiful, her eyes watered.

book blurb

She lives by the book—and is still searching for her happily ever after.

Darcy Wilde has tried hard not to live up to her last name. As a librarian in Atlanta she lives a fine life far away from the football-obsessed town of her childhood. But when her beloved Grandmother needs help, Darcy takes a leave of absence and heads back to the home and past she left behind.

He knows how to play the field—and is in no rush to settle down.

Robbie Dalton knows a thing or two about painful pasts. After bouncing around in foster care and the Army for years he is finally ready to move on and make a home for himself in Falcon, Alabama as the newest high school football coach. Sparks fly when the sexy new coach and the sharp-tongued librarian meet, but neither of them is looking to make ties.

But when it comes to love, sometimes you’ve gotta throw away the rule book to cross the finish line…

Everything changes when Darcy falls in love, not only with the gruff, protective, and smoking hot man who's sharing her days and nights, but also with the complex tapestry of people who weave Falcon together. Could this be where she belongs - and who she belongs with?

Robbie’s kiss stole all logical threads of thought, hurtling her into a territory where only sensations were processed. His soft hair under her fingers, the hard planes of his chest against her breasts, the rough denim abrading her inner thighs, his hands squeezing her hips. But, mostly, his lips and tongue as they worked her into an aroused frenzy.

His mouth drew away from hers, and she floated in the tumultuous aftermath. His face was cast of stone, any sort of gentleness she’d felt in his kiss not reflected in his frigid eyes or frowning mouth. He slid his hands down her legs to pry her ankles from around his hips.

He left her to teeter on the edge of the counter, legs spread wantonly. Forces of nature held true no matter the tipping of her world on its axis, and gravity pulled her to the floor, knees wobbly and hands shaking. After roving his gaze down her body and back to her face, he turned and moved toward the door.

His sudden pivot back made her inhale sharply. In two steps, he had her bracketed between his arms, both his hands on the counter. Their bodies were so close, his heat, his desire pulsed like a living thing, yet he didn’t press into her or touch her in any way.

“I want—” he whispered.

“Yes,” she said, ending on a hiss.

She wanted it too. Wanted him more than she’d ever wanted a man. She’d never felt this needy, this wild. Her legs rocked open, and she rose on her toes. She craved the touch of his hands. He could take her here or carry her to her room. It didn’t matter where he claimed her. It didn’t matter who saw them. They inhaled in synchronicity. She tilted her face to his . . .

“. . . my damn pudding.”

His tensed bicep brushed her sensitive breasts. He tucked the casserole dish under his arm like a football. Performing a militarily precise about-face, he stalked to the door. Avery cut off mid-growl, his head swiveling between them.

A potent combination of anger, lust, and humiliation jolted her body into action. His cap lay on the floor and she kicked it, launching it to the ceiling. Avery caught it on a jump and loped after Robbie. He stopped to retrieve it from his dog’s mouth and mashed it on his head. Avery received a stiff, but gentle pat. Man and dog disappeared around the corner of the house.

She stared out the screen door. A breeze rustled the roses climbing the trellis, the scent at odds with the bile climbing her throat. The spray and crunch of gravel under spinning wheels unstuck her. She picked up the nearest thing to her hand and hurled it at the screen. The overly ripe banana splattered on the floor, leaving a goopy, sweet-smelling mess.

Damn him to hell.

An award-winning author, Laura Trentham was born and raised in a small town in Tennessee. Although, she loved English and reading in high school, she was convinced an English degree equated to starvation. She chose the next most logical major—Chemical Engineering—and worked in a hard hat and steel toed boots for several years.

She writes sexy, small town contemporaries and smoking hot Regency historicals. The first two books of her Falcon Football series were named Top Picks by RT Book Reviews magazine. When not lost in a cozy Southern town or Regency England, she's shuttling kids to soccer, helping with homework, and avoiding the Mt.
