Hey! My name is Sarah Brianne and after living for twenty-two years the characters in my head told me enough was enough and I have finally put pen to paper (or is it finger to keyboard?) to tell their stories. Since I was a little girl I have watched every chick flick I could get my hands on, then when I became older I discovered a whole new world of romance novels. To me there is nothing better then a tale of true love and those are the stories that have inspired me to write. Like everything else in my life I have put my own spin on two lovers destined to be together.

She emerged from the bathroom as he approached. Her eyes widened when she caught sight of him, but she settled back into her calm and collected persona. “Are you ready to go?”

So polite. He wanted to get past that genteel surface and find the passionate woman he knew lay underneath. “I’m ready for a lot of things, Holland. Most of all, I’m ready to finish what we started all those years ago.”

She backed up, her body hitting the wall behind her. “What are you talking about?”

Oh, she knew exactly what he was talking about, but he could make it clear to her. “I never got to finish that kiss. My father interrupted us.”

Holland shook her head, but she was looking at his mouth. Her breath had gone shallow. “We finished. And I walked away.”

He moved closer, crowding her. “I definitely didn’t get my fill, sweetheart. Maybe if I had, you wouldn’t have left. I think it’s time we fixed that problem.”

Dax leaned in slowly, giving her the opportunity to protest. He’d never force her . . . but persuasion was something else entirely.

“Tell me you don’t want me to kiss you right here, right now.”

“You know I can’t,” she whispered.

That was what he wanted to hear. He braced his hand against the wall above her head and hovered close, breathing in her scent. She smelled like ripe peaches and something so her. It thrilled his senses.

Slowly, he reached for the soft skin of her face and cupped it. “I never stopped thinking about you. Not once, Holland. I don’t think I’m capable of forgetting you.”

“This is a mistake.” She breathed the words onto his lips, their mouths drawing ever closer. “It can’t end well.”

He closed the remaining distance between them and brushed his lips over hers, giving her a taste of what was to come. “It can if we make it. We choose our fates.”

He would make his marriage work. Together, they would have children who always felt loved and never worried that their parents didn’t put them and each other first.

Dax deepened the kiss, sliding his tongue over her plump bottom lip and thrilling when she shuddered. Her trembling hands skated up his torso as she pressed their bodies closer and kissed him harder. Then she opened her mouth and he felt the slide of her tongue against his.

Pure fire threatened to consume him. Usually, he took his time and worked up to sex, but the feel of this woman in his arms made him rough and ready in a heartbeat. He wanted to shove her against the wall and thrust his cock deep. Take her. His whole being screamed out to claim her once and for all.

He pinned her to the wall, covering her body with his as he prolonged the kiss. With greedy palms, he hugged her curves, then settled on her waist and pulled her hard against him. He hated the clothing between them, wanted nothing more than to feel her silky flesh.

“Dax, we shouldn’t,” she breathed against his mouth.

“Stop thinking. Feel. Feel how much I want you, Holland.” He pressed his pelvis against hers. It wasn’t a gentlemanly thing to do, but he couldn’t be polite with her. She brought out the caveman in him. He wanted to mark her, to let everyone else know this one woman was his.

He silenced her with his kiss, delving deep again. Her fingers clung to his shoulders as her body molded to his, fitting together. Chest to chest. Belly to belly. His erection nestled against her pussy.

Could he take her in the bathroom? He had a condom. All he needed was a few minutes of privacy to ease the ache they were both suffering. But as much as he wanted her, Dax couldn’t fathom that his first time with Holland would be in a public john. She deserved better. So did they.

As he forced himself to ease back, an unfamiliar voice drifted down the hall. “If you’ll come this way, we’ll take a peek into the private dining room.”

Holland gasped at the intrusion and shoved at him. Dax stared at her flushed cheeks and swollen lips, a ribbon of satisfaction winding through him.

“As you can plainly see, Antoine’s is noted for its romantic environment. Like everything here in New Orleans, we keep it spicy,” the male voice said again.

Dax grimaced when he noticed a group of tourists taking one of the food and wine tours conducted daily throughout the city. As the group passed, Holland looked even more flustered. Obviously, she hadn’t been caught in many compromising positions before. Luckily he had.

Dax stepped in front of her and nodded to the guide as he walked past.

“Y’all have a nice night in the Quarter,” he said with a smile.

Excerpt:

Five minutes into her short drive home, she passed another old beater Škoda with its hood up. She slowed down. It was pointing the opposite way, so it wasn’t like she could really offer him a ride. She was about to pass it, when she caught sight of the man, or more specifically, his jacket. It was bright red and emblazoned with MEDCIN SAND FRONTIERS. She pulled over. She wasn’t going to strand a fellow aid worker in the countryside at night.
Ca va?” she asked.
“Eh. I’ve been better,” he replied in a deep voice with a distinct English accent.
“And you’re not French,” she said, slamming her door and striding over to him.
“Not even a little bit.” He straightened and blew out a sigh as he held his hand out to her. “Malone Garrett. Thanks for stopping.”
She shook his hand and looked into the engine. “Anything I can help with?”
He cocked his head and looked down at her.
A jolt of awareness flashed through her as he met her eyes. He was all man. Firm jaw, really blue eyes, way over six feet, and built to match. His jean-clad legs were long and clearly muscled. She suddenly wanted to see what was under his jacket and shirt…Her long-dormant libido kick-started in her stomach, sending unwelcome messages through her body. Jesus, girl. Get a grip.
“Are you good with cars?” he asked, a hint of a smile behind his words.
I can hot-wire them, siphon fuel from them, disable them, make them explode, and change a fan belt. But aside from that, not really.
“I’m good at giving stranded motorists rides back into town,” she said, as if she was admitting she knew nothing about cars.
“In which case, I’d be grateful to take advantage of that skill, if you don’t mind,” he said, closing the hood. He got back into his car, turned off the headlights, and grabbed a messenger bag from the backseat.
She got in her car and watched him in her rearview mirror. His accent did strange things to her. Maybe it was just speaking to someone who actually spoke English as a first language. Maybe it was something different. Holy hell. Did God send him because she’d been determined to meet someone? Or at least touch someone?
He opened the door and peered in. “Are you sure? I promise I’m not an ax murderer.” He smiled disarmingly, and for a second she considered that that was precisely what an ax murderer would say. She shrugged to herself. Anything to relieve the boredom of her life.
“Sure. Maybe you should be asking if I’m the ax murderer?”
A frown flickered across his face for a second and she laughed. “I’m not, I promise.”
He got in and put his seat belt on. “Isn’t that exactly what an ax murderer would say, though?”
She laughed again. “You’re the one who brought up ax murderers. Maybe I kill with a spork. Maybe you’re making me feel inferior with all your talk about axes.” She pulled onto the road and headed toward the flickering lights of the town about thirteen miles away.
“Then let’s drop the subject. Although, clearly, axes are superior in that line of business.”
She sniffed. “You haven’t seen what I can do with a spork.”
He laughed, a low belly laugh. “So perhaps I can take you out to dinner, to thank you for your assistance this evening. That way, I can see firsthand how proficient you are with cutlery.”

Excerpt:

He moves so fast it’s almost a blur. I force myself to quit thinking, quit reacting to every action and strike, but I do succeed in keeping him from hitting my body. After a few minutes of the blistering attack, I find my strength flagging. I become slower, and Chasem takes advantage of it, hitting me hard on the shoulder, and I drop one of my Kali sticks. Chasem drops both of his and reaches out, lifting me by the neck toward the wall, pinning me hard against it.

"Never, ever give up! Do you hear me? Never!" he screams, his hot breath on my face. I squirm and struggle to get free of his grip but find I'm stuck.

His gaze is fierce, his lip curled up in a snarl. "Fight!" he screams again, but it's as if I can't convince myself that I can get free. My visions starts to darken from the lack of oxygen, and Chasem releases me. I collapse in a puddle, heaving hard and coughing, trying to suck air into my lungs though my burning throat.

I see Chasem pace for a few moments with his hands on his hips, like he doesn't know what to do. All around him, the mirrors tremble slightly, as if they’ll shatter at any moment. Chasem reaches for his water, takes a quick drink, then hurls the bottle toward the wall. I've never seen him like this. He’s usually so contained—tough, but contained. Now, he seems like a caged lion.

He turns towards me and leans down. "You can't be like this, Scar. You can't. You have to keep fighting, no matter what. Do you understand? It will be a matter of life or death. Never surrender, do you understand?"

Q & A with Jennifer Osborn

How long have you been writing?

I have written my entire life. My first attempt at being a published author was when I was in high school and I created my own stories, made my own covers and circulated them around school. As I got older, I continued to write, but more poetry than anything. I dabbled in screen writing for a time.

I’ve been a serious fiction writer for about four years now, having just finished my seventh book.

What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing your book(s)?

That I would have anything that anyone wanted to hear. I’m plagued with self-doubt and fear and actually hate when someone first opens a book of mine because I’m dying to know what they think. Oddly I’m always surprised when people tell me they love what I write. Strange huh? I struggle with confidence, but not enough to stop writing. If I didn’t comply with the compulsion to write I’d go mad.

Do you hear from your readers much? What do they say?

I do on occasion. I’m still fairly new at this and so my fan base is small. But I have people tell me that they love my character development and that they felt drawn deeply into my strange worlds.

What is your favorite food? Least favorite? Why?

I hate anything spicy “hot”. Truly. When I order Indian, I’ve actually given them a spice level of zero. True story.

Have you ever eaten a crayon?

Not that I recall, but I may have when I was a child. Are they good?

Tell us about a favorite character from a book.

I have to say I love Chasem from The Dawning of Scarlett. I don’t give a lot away about him in the book, but his backstory is crazy interesting and I know what he thinks about a lot of stuff. I wished I had an uncle as wickedly great as him.
